The storm downed power poles and uprooted trees and tore shingles from roofs. More than 2,000 Missouri Public Service Company electric customers were without power for nearly three hours, Jack Cockrill, Platte MoPub manager, reported.
After considerable discussion, the Platte City Board of Aldermen agreed that the minimum age for a police officer in Platte City should be age 21. Police Chief Roger Baskett sought the board’s opinion on the age because several applications he has for reserve police officer involve young men. He said the state requires at least 18 but they have to be 21 before they can purchase a gun. “They can carry a gun, but they have to get it through a brother or a friend,” he explained.
