Swirling rumors that Parkville alderman Jeffrey Bay has sold his home and moved out of Parkville can apparently be put to rest, at least for the time being. Bay told The Landmark that while it’s true that his house is under contract to be sold, he has not left Parkville.
Dollar General has opened in Platte City. Platte City’s newest retail outlet officially opened for business on Monday morning. Lisa Taylor, district manager for the Tennessee based company, received a proclamation from Mayor Frank Offutt, declaring it Dollar General Day in Platte City. Dollar General is located in a recently remodeled storefront next to ALPS grocery store along Hwy. 92 near Marshall Road, Platte City’s 8,300 sq. ft. store is one of 8,000 Dollar General stores operating in the United States.
A Parkville man pleaded guilty in federal court on Tuesday to conducting an illegal gambling business that relied on a web site with a computer server located in Costa Rica. James. L. Dicapo, also known as “Jimmy,” 57, of Parkville, pleaded guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert E. Larsen to the charge contained in a March 2010 federal indictment. Dicapo admitted that he conducted an illegal sports bookmaking business from March 1, 2006 to March 31, 2009. He was responsible for bettors who wagered a total of more than $1.2 million.
