CatLinh Beckett, of Kansas City in Platte County, is this year’s winner of The Landmark English Award, a cash scholarship presented by the newspaper each year to a graduating senior at Platte County High School. This year’s award of $750 is the largest in the history of the honor, which was started in 1982 by the Platte County Landmark to foster an interest the English language. The award winner is chosen by faculty members in the English department at the high school. The newspaper put up $250 and two Landmark readers who wish to remain anonymous donated $250 each to reach the all-time level for the 2025 honor. CatLinh is the daughter of HuyenChi Le and Mark Bennett. CatLinh, who said her most inspirational teacher at the high school is Hillary Kisker, Advanced Placement language instructor, plans to attend UMKC and will major in nursing. CatLinh said her hobbies outside of school are traditional (Vietnamese) dancing, reading, photography and crochet.
