EARLY SATURDAY MORNING IN PLATTE CITY
Five Platte City businesses were victims of a break-in early Saturday morning, April 26, Platte City police say.
Platte City Police Sgt. Mike Mand said the five businesses hit were Sonic, Dollar General, Roxanne’s Cafe, Fetterman’s Deli, and Pizza Shoppe.
Entry was gained at each location by breaking windows or breaking glass in doors, police said. The thieves were in search of cash, seeking entry into cash registers, according to police.
Police said the first alarm notification was received shortly after 4:30 a.m. Saturday. Mand indicated police conducted a check of businesses in town to discover a total of five locations had been hit.
Police describe the loss of cash as relatively small, “basically daily start-up cash,” Mand said. Mand added that the largest loss would be in the physical damage to gain entry.
Detectives are checking video and other evidence. No arrests have been made.
Sonic, Fetterman’s Deli and Pizza Shoppe are in close proximity with one another. In fact, Fetterman’s and Pizza Shoppe are in the same strip mall, at opposite ends of the strip, in the 2400 block of NW Prairie View Road. Sonic is located a short distance away, on the opposite side of Running Horse Road, with an address of 1308 Platte Falls Road.
Meanwhile, Dollar General and Roxanne’s Café are in close proximity, both located in the High Pointe Shops area at 1110 Branch Street (Hwy. 92).
“The investigation continues. We’re running down some leads,” Platte City Police Chief Jeff Wilson told The Landmark on Tuesday.
