All three were occupants of the same vehicle, which was northbound on I-29 near the rest area that’s located between Camden Point and Dearborn.

The crash occurred at 3:30 p.m.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report, a 1980 Chevrolet Van swerved to miss a slow moving vehicle, went off the left side of the roadway into the median, then overcorrected and overturned. The van came to rest back on the roadway, with the front of the vehicle facing east, according to the crash report.

Killed was a 39-year-old female from St. Joseph, who was ejected from the van and pronounced dead at the scene.

Injured were the driver of the van, a 52-year-old man from St. Joseph. Also injured was a 15-year-old male passenger from Hopkins, Mo. Both of the injured were taken to Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph.

None of the three were wearing a seatbelt, according to the highway patrol’s crash report.

Northbound I-29 remained closed for several hours in that area while the highway patrol investigated the crash. The patrol was assisted at the scene by the Platte County Sheriff’s Department.

Around 8 p.m. Sunday night, nearly five hours after the crash, the northbound lanes reopened.
