Headed to Platte City’s Holiday Lighting Celebration but don’t want to fight the traffic to and from?
Take advantage of trolley rides to Main Street to enjoy the activities.
The downtown celebration will run from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 27.
Trolley rides will be provided from the Platte County High School parking lot to Main Street every 15 minutes. The trolley service begins at 4:30 p.m. and will be available from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Theme for this year’s celebration is ‘Miracle on Main Street.’ The switch to turn on the lights on the courthouse and downtown businesses gets flipped at 6 p.m.
Jamie Kacz of the sponsoring Platte City Chamber of Commerce said attendees should expect traditional activities such as horse drawn carriage rides, visits with Santa and Mrs. Claus, a petting zoo, photo booth, train rides, balloon twisters, face painting, make-and- take crafts and much more.
Some new additions to the festivities have been added to the fun this year.
“ The snow will start falling when the lights get turned on,” Kacz said. She said there will be two snow machines set up on the sides of the courthouse stairs that will create “a magical environment for all attendees to experience” on the courthouse lawn.
Howard Prost, DJ, will be playing holiday favorites and using visual effects to create a festive dance party.
There are free food options, including from the firefighters of the Central Platte Fire Department at Second and Main, who will be cooking up chili and hot dogs.
