Retiro, Royals Stadium y tranvías

Dato interesante.

He is 65 years old. He probably has something left in the tank. Age is undefeated, but we don’t need to be reminded of that at every turn. Imagine being a 65-year-old banker and you spent your Friday afternoon writing up the best damn loan package your branch has ever seen. On your way out the door that afternoon, some loan clerk with a front lobby desk stops you and says, “Hey Bob Banker, will you be back on Monday? You’re 65 years old and most of us around town think you’re pretty old to be writing loans anymore.” That would hurt the old ego.

Or you’re a 65-year-old in the corporate world and you write the best damn profit forecast that your company has ever seen. Deliver it to a meeting of a bunch suits with custom log coffee mugs and as you walk out the conference room door, some 27-year-old that comes in the office twice a week says, “How much longer you going to work? Probably time to cash out, right? We all kind of thought you were getting close to done.” That would hurt on your way to the donuts in the break room.

Let’s give it a break on suggesting other people’s retirement.

In other news, people have been suggesting that I retire from writing this column since I was in my 30’s.

New Royals stadium in the Crossroads. I’m old enough to be sad about losing the great parking at Kauffman, but excited enough that I might have enough left in the tank to see downtown baseball. Two things can be true at once.

Don’t at me about riding the streetcar to the game. Streetcars are much more gimmick than about moving people efficiently.

Did we retire it too soon, or was it simply not efficient? I’ll let you figure that one out.

Calling for some snow about the time this hits your mailbox. I’m not in the mood. If we get any accumulation at all, expect a Mother Nature hate column.
