Platte County High School Theatre Department presents the commedia dell’arte play “The Servant of Two Masters,” held Tuesday through Thursday, April 25-27 at 7 p.m. in the high school’s Wilson Theater.

La versión traducida contiene todo el encanto de la obra original escrita en 1746 por el dramaturgo italiano Carlo Goldoni. Cuando el encantador sirviente Truffaldino se ve envuelto en los problemas de dos parejas de amantes, obtiene más de lo que esperaba. Esta traducción es un guión completo escrito después del apogeo de las actuaciones de la compañía de comedia, con partes cómicas (lazzi) aún incluidas, así como líneas improvisadas de los actores (que interpretan a los actores en el escenario como una compañía itinerante de actores).
“The Servant of Two Masters” is a high-energy, zany love story, and when all of these different, larger-than-life characters collide, you won’t want to look away for a second.
Anyone who loves comedy, particularly physical comedy, will love this performance. Historically, actors in commedia dell’arte would combine the traits of their characters with their own comedic skills to create lazzi (comedic moments). In line with the tradition of commedia dell’arte, the choreography for physically comedic bits will be inspired by each individual actor for this production and is often improvised in the moment which is fitting with the style.

Students have been working on and off stage to produce this show since the end of February. Student designers are in charge of designing all aspects of the show under the supervision of PCHS Theatre staff. The design concept for this show is made to look like a colorful traveling circus that has a mix of modern day and 1700’s elements.
