Nineteen-year-old Lexie Farris of Platte City died Friday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 29.
The deadly crash occurred just after 1 a.m. on Friday along the southbound lanes of Interstate 29. According to Sgt. Jacob Becchina with the Kansas City Missouri Police Department, the driver, identified as a 19-year-old white male, drove off the right side of the interstate near the Barry Road exit. When his black 2007 Dodge went into the grass, the “driver overcorrected,” causing it to overturn and roll back onto the roadway, according to police. The passenger, Lexie Farris, was “ejected from the vehicle and found approximately 90 feet from the vehicle,” said Sgt. Becchina.
Farris was not wearing a safety device at the time of the crash, police said. Farris was transported by ambulance to North Kansas City Hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead at 8 a.m. later that morning. The driver was taken to an area hospital, where he was treated for an injury to his arm.
