Health experts are encouraging patients to get their seasonal flu vaccine against the influenza viruses before the end of October.

To make it easier, the Platte County Health Department is offering multiple flu shot clinics, where folks can simply drive-thru and have a registered nurse administer a free flu vaccine to patients sitting inside their vehicles.

In southern Platte County, the Drive-Thru Flu Clinic will be held from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday Oct. 4 at the Riverside Fire Department at 2990 NW Vivion Road.

A separate Drive-Thru Flu Clinic will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Monday, October 8 at the Platte City Middle School at 900 Pirate Drive.

The Platte County Health Department expects hundreds of people to turn out to each clinic. Last year’s patients described the process as quick and convenient, adding they were in and out within 2 minutes. Patients are encouraged to visit dispenseassist.net/flu.html to print and fill out their paperwork online.

Children must be nine years or older to receive the vaccination at the Drive-Thru Flu Clinic.

Flu shots are also available to walk-in clients at 1201 East Street in Parkville. The fee is $28 for quadrivalent and pediatric vaccines. High-dose vaccine for adults 50 and over are $55.

Health experts say everyone six months of age and older should get the seasonal flu vaccine. Although the CDC (Center or Disease Control) does not calculate how many people die from the flu each year, it reports that millions of people get the flu every year and tens of thousands of people die from flu-related causes every year. Experts say the flu vaccine is the best way to protect yourself from getting the flu.
