Experience all the beauty fall has to offer this weekend while cycling in the fourth annual Pedal for Platte bike ride.
The free family-fun event will kick off at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 on Main Street in Platte City.
Registration opens at 7 a.m. A light breakfast will be provided to riders and their families. The ride then begins at 8 a.m.
Before hitting the start line, participants get to enjoy a complimentary breakfast and visit with other cyclists.
Riders can select one of four routes—a short family-fun course, a five-mile intermediate route, a 13- mile route or a 31-mile route.
Each route winds through the trails, parks and back streets of Platte City. Along the way, riders will pass wispy grasses, trees filled with leaves just starting to turn a palette of colors and gentle flowing water.
It is described as being “designed for bikers of all levels through the trails, parks and back roads of Platte County.”
The event, organized by Platte City, brings about 200 riders to historic downtown Platte City. Riders who sign up earlier receive a free t-shirt.
Adult participants are encouraged to donate $10. The donation is suggested but not required. Age 12 and under are free.
All proceeds will go toward the Platte City Rotary Club and the Platte City Area Chamber of Commerce/EDC.
Angie Mutti, executive director of the Platte City Area Chamber of Commerce, said with the cooler temperatures expected this weekend, organizers are expecting about 75 riders.
“It’s always dependent upon the weather,” Mutti said.
