ASSESSOR SETS FREE WORKSHOPS IN COUNTY
Want to learn more about the tax assessment process, reassessments, market values and available property tax relief programs?
Here is your chance.
The Platte County Assessor’s Office will host a series of citizen education workshops on those topics this summer. The first of the four workshops will be held at the Mid-Continent Library in Platte City on Wednesday, June 17 from 6-7 p.m.
The library is located at 2702 NW Prairie View Road in Platte City.
Workshops will be hosted by Platte County Assessor Marcus Farr and Carrie Haskey, sales validation and education coordinator for the assessor’s office.
Residents will have the opportunity to ask questions directly, learn how property values are determined and gain a better understanding of the role assessments play in local government and taxation.
“These workshops are about transparency, education and accessibility,” Farr said. “We want residents to feel informed and comfortable asking questions about their property assessments and the reassessment process.”
Each of the educational sessions will be held from 6-7 p.m. at branches of the Mid-Continent Public Library throughout the summer.
Here’s the schedule:
June 17: Platte City library, 2701 NW Prairie View Road.
July 15: Green Hills library, 8581 N. Green Hills Road, Kansas City in Platte County, 64154.
Aug. 18: Dearborn library, 206 Maple Leaf Street, Dearborn.
Aug. 19: Parkville library, 8815 Tom Watson Parkway, Parkville.
Workshop discussions will focus on how property assessments are determined, the purpose and timing of reassessment years, the role of the assessor’s office, current market trends, comparable sales, available property tax relief programs including Missouri’s SB 190 and Homestead programs, and the process for reviewing or appealing a property value.
The workshops are open to the public and no registration is required. Residents are encouraged to attend the location most convenient for them and bring any questions they may have regarding property assessments or taxation.
“The more information citizens have the more confident they can be in undersanding their assessments and the resources available to them,” said Haskey. “Our goal is to provide clear information and create an open dialogue with the community.”
