Dave Brooks, who served three terms as Platte City’s mayor from 2002 to 2008, passed away Saturday morning, Dec. 6. He had been living at an assisted living facility in the Northland.

There is no obituary available online at this time.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann, who formerly owned and operated Wellsbrooke Antiques at 246 Main in Downtown Platte City. Mary Ann has also been living in the same assisted living facility.

On Saturday, former Platte City Mayor Frank Offutt posted of Brooks’ death on his Facebook page: “A gray cloud has descended over our community with the news of Dave Brooks passing early this morning. The former mayor was a dedicated servant of the people, vigilant in sustaining his heartfelt beliefs of good government while creating an era of humble service benefitting all. His passion for protecting the rights of Platte City residents, yet retaining his strict conservative views provided a deeper understanding for those who studied his administration,” Offutt wrote.

“After leaving office, Mayor Brooks was recognized by Platte City officials for his six years of public service, when he was presented the W. R. Fox Citizenship Award in 2008. We extend our thoughts to his wife of many years, Mary Ann, and to his extended family and friends,” Offutt said.

In 2002, Brooks was first elected mayor by defeating incumbent Offutt. After serving three terms, Brooks was then defeated by Offutt in 2008 in his unsuccessful quest for a fourth term.

In 2014, Brooks announced he would run a write in campaign against Offutt, who was unopposed on the ballot for mayor that year. Offutt won that race. Offutt had also defeated a challenge from Brooks in the 2012 race for mayor.
