Platte County Emergency Management and the City of Tracy combined efforts and applied for a grant to fund the siren. Last week the siren was installed at Hwy. 273 and 273 Spur in front of Tracy City Hall, on the corner of Hwy. 273 and Andy Street.

The siren will provide warning for the residents of Tracy and the surrounding area in the event of weather emergencies or other emergencies.

It is the first outdoor warning device in Tracy, filling a void in the northern part of Platte County and the residents of Tracy.

The siren was funded by an emergency management performance grant from the State Emergency Management Association (SEMA), and built to enhance emergency preparedness and mitigation in the area.

The grant paid for the hardware and installation of the outdoor warning siren, which totaled about $32,000.

The City of Tracy is handling power and a maintenance contract for the siren.
