Ralph Wittmeyer, policy action chairman from Platte County Farm Bureau, was one of seven winners from the state who will receive a trip to Washington, D.C. Feb. 19-21. Winners were announced at the 65th annual meeting of the Farm Bureau Federation at Tan-Tar-A Lodge Dec. 2-4.


In a special meeting of the board of education of the Platte County R-3 School District on Nov. 30, Canfield Construction Company of Kansas City was awarded the bid on the area vocational technical school. Their low bid was $1,818,883. To the proposed plans of the school, a computer room was added at an additional $4,746. The next meeting of the board will be Dec. 20.

Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Lee Brightwell of Platte City were united in marriage on Oct. 13 at the home of the groom’s parents., Mr. and Mrs. W.T. Brightwell of Dearborn. The bride’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. June L. Mason of Platte City.


Old Man Winter came to Platte County Tuesday with a powerful blow. The temperature was about 60 degrees early in the morning but soon began to drop and at 6 p.m. the temperature was down to 25 degrees. The area awakened Wednesday morning to a brisk 18 degrees.
