Go Chicken Go, a popular choice for fast fried chicken, will be opening at 380 NE Vivion Road, Kansas City in Clay County.

The Northland spot will become the sixth restaurant in the Kansas City metro for Go Chicken Go. It will offer the chain’s signature fried chicken, sides and what it calls G-sauce.

The location at 380 NE Vivion Road, a building formerly home to a Taco Bueno, will feature an interior dining room as well as a drive-thru. The chain has said it will offer opportunities for online orders so customers can get a “quick and easy carryout experience.”

Construction crews were busy with remodeling work at the site when The Landmark arrived for a photo Saturday afternoon, Nov. 2.

Go Chicken Go is known for its gizzards, which in case you were wondering, are the muscular stomach of a chicken.

Go Chicken Go was founded in 1969 by Bill and Mary Hendrix. It first started inside a Go Gas service station at 7th Street and Kansas Avenue in Kansas City, Kan. The owners soon removed the gas pumps and changed the name to Go Chicken Go.

In the 1970s, two other locations were opened. One was in the West Bottoms and the other at 38th Street and Leavenworth Road. Both of those locations have since closed.

The original Go Chicken Go was later relocated to 59 N. Seventh St. in Kansas City, Kan.

In 1986, a location at 5101 Troost Ave. opened, followed by a restaurant at 1000 S. Harrison Street in Olathe, Kan. in 1990, then a spot at 8017 State Ave. in Kansas City, Kan. in 1996, and a location at 4111 Shawnee Drive in Kansas City, Kan. in 2000.

Menu items, locations and opening times can be found at GoChickenGo.com.

“Since 1996, Go Chicken Go has been serving memorable fried chicken made with fresh ingredients, a beloved family recipe, and the unbeatable spirit of Kansas City,” the chain says on its website.
