The event, billed as Main Street Celebration, will take place on Platte City’s Main Street the evening of Friday, June 7 and during the daytime on Saturday, June 8.

A Friday night street dance sponsored by Barley & Vine will jump start the celebration. Live music will be provided by Noah Austin. Austin’s social media platforms describe him as a country music artist who is also a songwriter. He plays a lot of cover songs “and would love to take requests if you have them,” he says on his YouTube channel.

Austin will be performing from 6-9 p.m. on the street, as Barley & Vine, the upscale wine bar and brewery located at 246 Main Street, “takes the party outside” on Friday, June 7.

There will be food trucks on the street with menu items available for purchase, as well.

Then on Saturday, June 8, the day will begin with a pancake feed at Harper Haus Music Company, located at 200 Main Street. The pancake breakfast begins at 9 a.m. According to a flyer distributed by the Downtown Platte City Association, the first 200 guests eat free.

At 11 a.m. on Saturday, a parade is scheduled on Main Street. If you’re interested in being part of the parade, email dtplattecity@gmail.com. There is no fee to enter. Jeeps and classic cars are among those encouraged to enter the parade.

Then from 12 noon until 6 p.m., a variety of activities will be happening on Main. Among the offerings will be live music, bounce houses for the kids, a vendor market, a car show, face painting, a dunk tank, and tacos.

Live music performers on Saturday will be Michael Neal and Miguel Antonio.

According to the Downtown Platte City Association, there will be charges for the face painting. Other afternoon activities listed are free.

Sarah Rudis, president of the Downtown Platte City Association, said the event “promises to be a vibrant and engaging experience for our community, showcasing local businesses, artisans, and community spirit.”

Rudis recently appeared at a meeting of the City of Platte City’s parks committee and spoke about the upcoming Main Street Celebration and some of the planned offerings.
