ONE LANE NOW OPEN AT HWY. 92 AND I-29
A bit of relief from the traffic inconvenience caused by the damage to the Hwy. 92 bridge over I-29 at Platte City took place on Wednesday, Jan. 31.
One lane in each direction was opened to traffic by that evening and remains open at this time.
On Friday, Jan. 26, MoDOT officials said they are “working on getting a consultant hired to evaluate and prepare plans for the repair of the structure and at that point we will have a better idea about the timeline and costs.”
The Missouri Department of Transportation announced late Monday afternoon, Jan. 22 that it had closed Hwy. 92 in both directions at I-29 after the bridge over I-29 was struck earlier that afternoon.
The ramps at I-29 and Hwy. 92 interchange have remained open to right turns only. The suggested detour is to utilize I-29 to adjacent interchanges at Mexico City Ave, and at Main St/Route HH.
The bridge was struck by an over height load on Monday, Jan. 22. An excavator being hauled on the back of the truck was over height and damaged the bridge in multiple sections.
It is believed the truck carrying the excavator had entered I-29 from the Hwy. HH ramp, which is about a mile north of Hwy. 92, and struck the first bridge it came to.
MoDOT officials indicated the impact sheered through concrete and rebar in three sections of the bridge.
