DEC. 9-11 IN DOWNTOWN PLATTE CITY
Imagine woodland creatures looking out from trees, the smell of an evergreen forest and beautifully and creatively decorated Christmas trees throughout an historic Victorian mini-mansion in Platte City.
Visitors can see this at Ben Ferrel Platte County Museum from Friday through Sunday, Dec. 9, 10 and 11 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Saturday Dec,. 10 from 12 – 5 p.m. they can enjoy one of the scheduled Candlelight Story Tours– information listed below.
Sue Hurd Van Amburg of Platte City organizes this annual holiday at the museum which hosted an open house on Thanksgiving Eve, with children visiting the Snow Princess portrayed by Lacey Franksen, a Platte County High School senior.
Volunteer decorators at the museum included Wilma Summers of the Platte Purchase Chapter of DAR; Sandra Ely, Evie Knodel, Jamie Knodel, Janice Robinson, Joyce Taylor, Brenda Testerman, and Sue Van Amburg of Platte City; Anne Jones of Weatherby Lake with granddaughter Shyanne Warren; and Lisa Wittmeyer, museum curator.
Admission is $5 for adults and free for children under 12 and for Platte County Historical Society members. Walk-ins are welcome though reservations are recommended for the “Candlelight Story Tours” (20-30 minutes with prioritized times on Dec. 10 of 12:30; 1:30; 2:30; 3:30 and 4:30).
This tour takes guests on an imaginative journey back through local legacy and woodlands to the 8th century in England. Storyteller actors include volunteers from Harper Haus Music, the historical society, and others from the community.
