Secretary of State Jim Kirkpatrick of Jefferson City and State Sen. Truman Wilson of St. Joseph were in Weston Monday for the opening sale of the tobacco market. Mr. Kirkpatrick stopped by The Landmark for a short visit en route to Weston. The top price for tobacco on opening day was $1.28 per pound.


A number of persons from Platte County attended the MU-KU football game at Lawrence Saturday and watched KU win 24-22.

Dr. Richard Calvert and Mrs. Lena Calvert arrived last Thursday night from Germany. Mrs. Lena Calvert has been visiting Europe for the past six weeks and Dr. Calvert returned home with her and will be visiting relatives in the U.S. for about a month.


The real reasons for Thanksgiving: For the freedom of choice; for the many blessings that are ours that so many thousands throughout the world are not privileged to enjoy; for our heritage that we in the United States are privileged to appreciate; that we can worship as we choose; that we have the right to a free ballot and the right to grow as our abilities permit; let us, one with others, go to the church of our choice in sincere appreciation for our many blessings; let us join together in prayer that the world will be at peace; let us pledge our faith in the goodness of our beloved country as was the privilege of our forebearers who celebrated the first Thanksgiving.
