At I-435 and Hwy. 45 in Parkville

The massive Creekside development in Parkville has its first hotel, which recently opened to a sold-out crowd due to games at a nearby baseball complex.

The 92-room Creekside Hotel is adjacent to tournament baseball fields at the Creekside Baseball Complex, and draws players from throughout the country who travel to Parkville to play competitive games. The hotel and fields are part of the more than 350-acre Creekside development at Interstate 435 and Missouri 45.

The hotel, at 16000 Ruth St., includes an outdoor pool and patio, fitness center, breakfast buffet and business center, according to the hotel’s website. A clubroom is “perfect for small get-togethers, with a balcony overlooking the nearby Creeekside Baseball Park,” according to the website. The ballpark, at 15900 Long Ball Street, is “one of the best destinations for elite youth and high school baseball,” the web site states.

The hotel facility is touted as being near historic Parkville’s Main Street, which is lined with “art galleries, unique shopping, antique shops, local dining and beautiful scenery.”

The hotel is located on what is described in city documents as the northwest quadrant of the Creekside Development.

The entire development includes single-family and multi-family housing, light industrial and retail buildings.

Developer Brian Mertz told a local television reporter that 76 teams played at the ballpark during a recent weekend, which filled the nearby hotel. The hotel is part of the Creekside Commons development, which also includes plans for a restaurant, gas station, pharmacy/medical office, general retail and outdoor recreation, according to city development documents. Some components already are opened while others are in various phases of construction.

Mertz and a hotel manager did not respond to telephone messages for comment.

Stephen Lachky, community development director for the City of Parkville, said while the Creekside Hotel is the first such structure in the Creekside Development, documents describing three additional hotels are found in the preliminary plans. A hotel is planned for the area west of Homer Parkway and the Old Town at Creekside plan. Plans call for the construction of a total of four hotels in the development, he said.

Mertz discussed plans for the tournament-style fields early in the process of talks with city leaders about the Creekside development. When plans for Creekside first were announced, Mertz said the facilities were needed because the Kansas City area had no such complex for youth and college age athletes to play in regional/national tournaments and the hotel would support out-of-town teams and families.
