The following public records were obtained as part of the Parkville Ethics Commission’s investigation into accusations that Parkville Mayor Nan Johnston destroyed evidence and public records during the Maki v Parkville Sunshine Lawsuit. These documents and their exhibits were requested by the Parkville Ethics Commission from Jason Maki.

Asked by The Landmark if he had a comment in regard to the contents, Joe Vanover, an attorney representing the Parkville Ethics Commission, responded: “I can’t comment on it.”

Next meeting of the Parkville Ethics Commission is set by Zoom on Wednesday, Feb. 2 at 6 p.m.

The lawsuit cost Parkville taxpayers over $450,000 and is believed to include the largest settlement ($195,000) in state history for a Sunshine Law violation by a city.

The Platte County Prosecutor, Platte County Sheriff and Parkville Ethics Commission are currently investigating the matter. Parkville Mayor Nan Johnston has denied the accusations. As first reported by The Landmark in October, the sheriff’s department has confirmed that it is conducting a criminal investigation: https://plattecountylandmark.com/2021/10/20/criminal-probe-underway-at-parkville-city-hall/
