Sweet Dream Donuts is open in Platte City

Entrepreneur Houn Hourc recently opened Sweet Dream Donuts at 1302 Platte Falls Road in Platte City to offer the community an assortment of favorite fried ring-shaped cakes.

Sweet Dream Donuts is housed in the spot previously occupied by LC’s Hamburgers.

“Customers won’t have to drive far to enjoy their favorite donut,” said Hourc, who has a background in hospitality.

After receiving formal training in Tennessee, Hourc focused on honing her culinary skills and perfecting her recipes. She opened her first donut shop in Savannah.

A year later, Hourc was on a mission to open a donut shop in Platte City, after realizing there wasn’t a single shop in Platte City that exclusively specialized in donuts.

Today, Sweet Dream Donuts has expanded to four locations, including St. Joseph and Maryville. If everything goes well at these locations, Sweet Dream Donuts could become a franchise.

Her new shop, featuring kolaches, croissants, biscuits, drinks, and, yes, a large assortment of flavored donuts, brings joy to its customers’ taste buds. Upon entry, customers can smell the spices and ingredients that flavor the different donuts.

Hourc says she has a very personal way of cooking handmade donuts. Each batch is crafted from a special recipe. She likes to make the classics that always please a crowd, and gives each donut a nice, heavy dose of glaze and sprinkles.

The business offers apple, pineapple, old fashioned, bear claw, long johns, and cinnamon bites. Reaction in the first couple months of business has been “very positive,” said Hourc.

The donut shop’s indoor seating allows customers to enjoy their tasty treat around other people in a friendly atmosphere. Its hours of operating are 5 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Sunday.

To prepare enough donuts, Hourc and her team get-cracking very early each morning.

With all the equipment and machinery, Hourc says opening the donut shop has been a medium sized investment. Since opening, she has hired and trained a staff of five to help make the donuts, take orders over the phone, and assist customers.

“If customers call ahead, we can prepare large orders ahead of time for special occasions, like family reunions, business meetings, holiday parties, and weddings,” said Hourc.
