The KCPD shared statistics for major crime categories, year-to-date through October.

Cpt. Jake Becchina of the KCPD media unit said the comparisons are 2025 vs. 2024 during the same time frame.

Burglaries are down 17%
Property damage is down 36%
Stealing is down 20%
Stolen autos are down 33%
Robberies are down 23%
Homicides are down 4%
Non-fatal shootings are down 32%

In other KCPD news as reported recently by The Landmark, the number of vehicle crash fatalities within Kansas City is down considerably this year.

In numbers through the morning of Nov. 18, there have been 59 traffic fatalities in Kansas City this year. That is down by 28 percent from last year’s total through the same date, which was 82 fatalities.

FELONY CRIMES
DROP SLIGHTLY
IN PLATTE COUNTY

In other area crime statistics, an annual report from the office of Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd shows felony prosecutions have declined slightly in the past 12 months.

Zahnd’s numbers, provided in an annual report to the county commission, show his office filed 686 felonies from Nov. 1, 2024 through Oct. 31, 2025.
That is a drop of nine felony cases, or 1.3 percent, from the previous year’s 695.

Zahnd’s numbers show felony filings are down six percent since the 2022 total of 729.

Zahnd said the number of misdemeanor cases filed from Nov. 1, 2024 to Oct. 31, 2025 rose by 33 percent compared to the previous year. A total of 10,301 misdemeanor cases were filed. Zahnd said the vast majority of the misdemeanors, 7,901 to be exact, were traffic ticket cases.

Zahnd attributed the increase in misdemeanors to a more “fully staffed sheriff’s department” issuing more traffic citations.
