“That’s what friends are for,” goes the song, and in the case of Jenni Hall and Jodie Nichols, eighth graders at Platte City Middle School, they illustrate that point well. Hall broke her leg at the end of last school year and missed most of the remaining school days. When she broke it again during the summer, she asked her friend Nichols to assist her at school. Hall’s “body guard” helps her get to classes, including her books and going to the lockers. Once school is out for the day, Nichols helps Hall to her car. Their friendship began when Hall was in the hospital the first time with her broken leg. Nichols would visit Hall in the hospital, so it only seemed natural when Hall broke her leg again that Nichols would want to help out.
A city-wide election has been proposed by the Platte City Parks and Recreation Board for a half cent sales tax that would be used to fund the city’s parks and recreation facilities. Although this election has been proposed for March 5, it is at the discretion of the Platte County Election Board as to whether the vote will occur then, said Mayor Pearl Brown.
