Laurie Everett, newscaster for KMBC-TV Channel 9 of Kansas City, served as celebrity emcee of the Zed Martin Day parade on Saturday in Platte City. She was assisted in announcing the entries by Platte City residents Bill Brown and Jim Palmer. Pictured along with Everett was Mary Ann Brooks, one of the chief organizers of the Zed Martin Day festival.


A Clay County jury was unable to reach a verdict in a child molestation case Thursday, and Platte County Prosecutor Todd Graves immediately moved for a new trial. “It is unfortunate that the jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict, but child molestation cases are tough and we’ll stick with it until the job is done,” Graves said. “We have already begun preparing to go to trial again in November.”
