According to police, the fatality hit and run occurred at 10:40 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25. Officer Alayna Gonzalez with the Kansas City Police Department says preliminary investigation reveals that a light color midsized SUV was traveling westbound on Barry Road from N. Boardwalk.

Police say the driver of the SUV struck the construction worker and left the scene. A few minutes later, the worker, who had been repaving asphalt, was pronounced dead by Kansas City Fire Department personnel.

Police say the driver of the vehicle was apprehended shortly after. The investigation is continuing.
