John Higgins, veteran alderman for City of Platte City, was honored with a plaque by Mayor Steve  Hoeger at Higgins’ final meeting on April 15. Higgins served as an alderman a total of 22 years, from 1987 to 1993, and then again from 2009 to 2025. “I’ve had a good time with it,” Higgins told The Landmark after his final meeting. Higgins credited then Mayor George Dennis Offutt with recruiting him to run in 1987, and then Mayor Frank Offutt, son of George Dennis Offutt, with recruiting him again in 2009. Higgins has agreed to serve the city in a more limited role, accepting appointments to the city’s parks board and also to the city’s board of zoning adjustment, less time consuming positions than alderman.
