Big smiles appeared in the Wegner family Wednesday as elder son Zac signed a letter of intent to play football for the University of Kansas. Pictured after the signing were: mother Marilou, Zac, father Steve, and younger brother Corby. Zac sported a Jayhawk tie, purchased especially for the occasion. “We’re real proud of him. He’s a good kid. That’s what’s nice,” his mother said.

John Bless, former Platte County public administrator, was sentenced Friday to one year in the Platte County Jail for stealing $2,500. He had pleaded guilty in December to one count of writing an unauthorized check for $2,500 on an estate account under his supervision. Circuit Court Judge James Welsh from Clay County stated that if all outstanding probate matters to the public administrator’s office are cleared up, he would consider work release for Bless after 90 days. Bless was taken to jail immediately after sentencing.
