Construction began Nov. 28 on the new Hwy. 92 bridge across the Platte River, being built by the Missouri Highway and Transportation Department. The project is scheduled for completion in November of 1995. The new 40-ft. wide bridge will be built west of the current bridge and provide wider lanes for traffic.
The Platte County R-3 School Board will ask voters to approve approximately $8.4 million in construction projects in April’s election next year. It is expected that $1.5 million of the financing for the project will come from the district’s fund balances, leaving approximately $7 million to be funded by new monies. The figure includes the cost of land.
Platte County has received a $490,000 down payment assistance grant from the Missouri Housing Development Commission to help flood victims buy new housing, Freddie Wells, county grant writer, announced Thursday. “The supplemental funds will help 30 families, perhaps more,” Wells stated. The grant pays all costs and is match free. It helps provide adequate funding to assist flood victims in making down payment on another home in both the buyout and other areas, according to Wells. $20,000 is the maximum amount available per homeowner.
