As he prepares to head out the door, again, his recent service to the city by DJ Gehrt, right, was noted by Platte City Mayor Steve Hoeger at a board of aldermen meeting recently. Hoeger, left, presented Gehrt with a plaque that noted Gehrt was the “Comeback Player of the Year.” After more than a dozen years as city administrator, Gehrt had retired July 1, 2023 but he returned as interim city administrator in April of 2024 after the firing of Marji Gehr as city administrator. Now that the city has hired Tom Cole, former economic development director for Leavenworth County, as the new city administrator, Gehrt is preparing to leave again. The award noted that Gehrt is being honored “for his exceptional commitment to the City of Platte City, Missouri. His remarkable return to peak performance showcases unparalleled determination, strength and dedication to the city. Through adversity, he has proven that true champions rise above obstacles with unwavering resolve. Congratulations on this well-earned accolade, and may your story of resilience continue to inspire greatness as you (again) retire from public service.” The mayor also presented Gehrt with a case of Spam, the processed canned pork and ham which Gehrt says is his favorite meal.
