The Platte County Commission on Monday approved a request for bids on what is referred to as the Thousand Oaks Connector Trail. The connector will be roughly three-quarters of a mile, said Daniel Erickson, county director of parks.

Brush Creek Trail was opened last November, with a ribbon cutting on Nov. 3 at the Brush Creek Trail, River Road Trailhead, located at 15500 NW River Road in Parkville.

County officials describe Brush Creek as a two mile concrete trail that provides a scenic and inviting experience for residents and visitors. The trail is set to become a vital connector within the Platte County trail system. It will cross the Park Hill School District’s planned elementary school to link with the Southern Platte Pass Trail.

“Sometimes it’s just a matter of making that final connection that really increases usage,” said Erickson.

“There are probably over 1,000 families in Thousand Oaks who can tap right into there and go directly from their home to this trail. And Brush Creek Trail is just beautiful. It winds through the forested area down there,” said Dagmar Wood, first district county commissioner. “I just absolutely love it.”

Bids for the trail construction are due on Oct. 1. The county anticipates make the bid award and giving the contractor a notice to proceed on Oct. 14. Construction deadline is June 1, 2025.
