Melissa Steele Moran, Senior Helpers business owner of more than 16 years, is a candidate for Platte County second district commissioner in the upcoming Aug. 6 election.
Moran, a Republican, has been an engaged local business owner, inspiring decision maker, and servant leader.
She will oppose Joe Vanover, current second district commissioner, on the Republican ballot in the Aug. 6 primary.
The second district is generally the northern half of the county.
“I want to cultivate relationships that actively benefit the Platte County citizens. At times I have felt under-represented at a local level, and I want to change that for people,” Moran said. “I want to serve the community I live in and continue to make this county a great place to live. This is not a political stepping stone for me.”
With many years of leadership experience Moran believes she can bring fresh ideas and positive change to the county. “Platte County is one of the fastest growing counties in the state of Missouri, and we must be part of that process. I will be active in assessing options and make the best decision for our local communities and our futures.”
Moran, a resident in the northern district of Platte County, grew up on a gravel road in Mid-Buchanan School District, but has made Platte County her home for more than 36 years. Married, she has two adult children and eight grandchildren.
Moran currently serves as president of the Parkville Area Chamber & EDC, president of a networking group of almost 200 members, Northland Professionals in Aging, and is a member of many other local organizations in making a positive impact for our community.
Additionally, Moran serves her church through teaching the Next Steps Course.
After being asked to run by former Parkville Alderman Greg Plumb, Melissa was asked what her husband thought of the idea of her representing Platte County in the capacity of district two commissioner.
“My husband has asked me for years if we needed to move to the city limits of Parkville since he has called me Mayor Moran our whole lives. His response this time was “Can’t believe it took so long for people to ask you.”
