A heavy rainstorm swept through Platte County Tuesday evening with up to 70 mile-per-hour winds, large hail and heavy rain. The southern part of Platte County received the most severed damage. Wednesday night the area again had heavy rain, thunder and lightning.


Rev. L. Kyle Hern was reappointed minister of the Platte City United Methodist Church for the coming year by the Missouri West Conference last week.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank M. Hauschildt of Barry are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Frances, to James E. Wren, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Wren of Platte City.


Mrs. H. Graham Park of Columbia announces the engagement of her daughter, Scottie Louise Parker of Houston to Steve Roy Brandt of Greenville, South Carolina, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Brandt of Houston. Also the daughter of the late Dr. H. Graham Parker, who lived in Platte City, the future bride holds a degree in English from the University of Missouri-Columbia. She also received a certificate of association from the Montessori Internationale Institute in Toronto. Her fiancé received a degree in economics from the University of Virginia. A July 28 wedding at the Winston Churchill Memorial Chapel in Fulton, Mo. is planned.
