An armed robber early Tuesday morning got away with cash from the Conoco station along Running Horse Road at Hwy. 92 in Platte City. The robbery occurred about 2:05 a.m. According to Richard Sayles, police chief, an employee and two acquaintances were outside the store smoking when a man with a handgun approached them. The man ordered all three to enter the store and for the employee to give him the cash from the register. After he was provided an undisclosed amount of cash, the man left the immediate area on foot and may have then left the area in a gray vehicle.
Frustration with delays on road improvements in the Platte Valley Plaza was a topic for the Platte City Public Works subcommittee. Aaron Jung, committee chairman, said he was concerned with the amount of time the project has taken. The project includes adding turn lanes and installing stop lights at Running Horse and Platte Falls Roads and another stoplight at Kentucky Avenue along Hwy. 92. Leonard Hendricks, public works director, said part of the problem is that the work is being done by subcontractors and there is not a general contractor in charge.
Some landowners near the Iatan Power Plant filed a lawsuit in May against Kansas City Power and Light claiming the utility is not properly maintaining a levee, causing their farmland to flood. The suit says the levee was built in 1978 and surrounds the Iatan 1 power plant north of Weston.
