One killed, one critically injured in Northland crash

A driver was killed and another critically injured in a two-car crash in the Northland at NW 82nd Street and North Platte Purchase Drive in Kansas City on Friday morning.

According to Kansas City police, a gray Tesla 3 was traveling southbound on N. Platte Purchase Drive at a high rate of speed. The Tesla failed to negotiate the curve in the roadway, crossed the double yellow line and struck a gray Buick Encore head-on that was traveling northbound on N. Platte Purchase Drive.

The restrained driver of the Buick was transported to a local hospital where she was subsequently pronounced dead, said Sgt. Phil DiMartino with the KCPD media unit.

The driver of the Tesla was transported to a local hospital with critical injuries. Authorities say the driver of the Tesla is currently in critical condition and the investigation is ongoing.

The crash occurred at 7:37 a.m. Friday, April 26.

According to the KCPD, this is Kansas City traffic fatality No. 37 compared to 23 at this time last year.
