The Kansas City stadium discourse is becoming quite fun for outside observers like myself. Looks like liberal infighting has broken out and it’s kind of fun to watch the politicians that have fostered that political approach to try to side with the corporate behemoth sports teams now.
The whole thing reminds me of conservative parents that send their kids off to college and then spend Christmas Break eye rolling all the liberal views they’ve developed in their first semester and trying not to backhand them.
Specifically, Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas has met nary a social program that he did not support but he is “all in” for the Royals and Chiefs sales tax and specifically in for the Royals move to downtown, displacing a small number of business and residents as part of that process.
Community based groups in the area have come out vigorously against the displacements and Lucas is now on an island between his love for the big business sports teams and the residents that he has consistently catered to when they were not battling the local sports franchises. It’s all so entertaining.
One of Bill Grigsby’s, the popular former announcer for the Chiefs, children wrote a scathing opinion piece against the tax extension that was published by the Kansas City Star this weekend and I found the whole thing laughable. The Star pumped it as some sort of “super insider” opinion about the Chiefs. Mind you, she’s the grown child and one of five children of Grigsby and works as a nurse consultant that lives in New Jersey.
She referred to Lamar Hunt being a guy that would “resole” his shoes, but Clark “bought” new shoes. I’m not sure what year it is in New Jersey, but it’s not 1964 and Clark is a billionaire.
Buy the new shoes, eat the cake, Clark.
I suppose we will get an opinion in The Star from Mickey Cobb’s children next week, or maybe Denny Matthews’ nieces or nephews, I’ve been wondering what they all think.
The opinion piece from Grigsby’s daughter claimed that Len Dawson and Clark’s parents, among others, would be rolling over in their graves over this money grab. I’m not an expert, but I don’t think that is scientifically proven as possible. Trust the science, folks.
I have had some shoes resoled, but it was approximately 1989 and I don’t think that guy is still in business, or alive for that matter. You’re going to have to find your own shoe cobbler, I have no recommendations for you. God Speed.
I hate to be Captain Obvious, but during Clark Hunt’s ownership the Chiefs have won three Super Bowls and been to four. His dad’s tenure involved two Super Bowls and one victory. In a world that is measured by wins and losses, I’ll let you come to your own conclusion on the most successful ownership tenure.
