LEAVENWORTH MAN CHARGED WITH DRUG-RELATED CRIME
An arrest has been made in connection with the incident surrounding a fatal shooting in the parking lot of the Platte City Wendy’s last Wednesday night, Nov. 15.
A suspect has been charged with a drug-related crime in connection with the incident. There could be other charges, police say, after prosecutors review the case file. The suspect has not been charged in the death of the shooting victim at this time.
The Metro Squad announced on Tuesday morning that Terrion M. Gully-Henry, 22, of Leavenworth, has been arrested and charged with attempting to deliver a controlled substance.
Platte City Police Chief Joe Wellington said Gully-Henry is currently in custody. Court records viewed by The Landmark indicate his bond has been set at $50,000 cash-only.
In the complaint and request for a warrant viewed by The Landmark, authorities allege that Gully-Henry “agreed to sell two ‘zips,’ or 56 grams, of marijuana to a confidential victim, and such conduct was a substantial step toward the commission of the offense of delivery of more than 35 grams of marijuana” to the confidential victim.
Kareem Z. Hassan, 18, of Kansas City was killed in the shooting and a second male was critically injured. The second male remains in critical condition at a local hospital. His identity has not been released.
The Kansas City Metro Squad is a team of detectives from the Kansas City area who were called in to conduct the investigation. Wellington said the Metro Squad followed 71 leads over 765 investigative hours, “which led to the arrest of a suspect.”
“The case will be presented to the Platte County Prosecutor’s Office for review and for determination if further charges will be filed,” Wellington said.
The Metro Squad’s work on the case is now completed and the squad will be disbanded.
“For the most part the investigative work is done. There are still a few things we (Platte City police) will be following up on but for the most part the work is done,” Wellington told The Landmark Tuesday morning.
The shooting occurred about 6:22 p.m. on Nov. 15 in the back area of the Wendy’s parking lot at 1400 Platte Falls Road in Platte City. When authorities arrived on the scene, they found two adult males lying in the Wendy’s lot. Both were taken to a nearby hospital. Hassan was pronounced dead at the hospital and the other victim has continued to be listed in critical condition since the time of his arrival at the hospital.
