A crash with what are described as life-threatening injuries occurred Thursday night, Aug. 17, on southbound Hwy. 169 and Barry Road in the Northland.
According to Kansas City Police Department Cpt. Corey Carlisle, investigation revealed that a red Ducati motorcycle was traveling southbound on Hwy. 169 at a very high rate of speed. Just south of Barry Road, the motorcycle struck the rear end of a gray Ford Escape that was also traveling southbound on Hwy. 169.
The impact caused the Ford to leave the highway to the right. The Ford traveled through the grassy median on the right side of the highway, across Thomas Meyers Drive, through the trees, and through a wrought iron fence. The Ford ended its path of travel by becoming caught on a concrete retaining wall next to the apartment building.
Police say the motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. The driver and the front seat passenger of the Ford were transported to a local hospital in stable condition.
On Friday morning, Carlisle said the motorcyclist is in “very critical” condition and the investigation is ongoing.
