Crash in Platte County

IN CONSTRUCTION ZONE NEAR 72ND STREET

Authorities say a juvenile walking in the construction zone on Interstate 29 at 72nd Street was hit by a semi-truck around 9:30 Wednesday night. Kansas City police say the juvenile suffered critical injuries and remains hospitalized in critical condition on Thursday morning.

Cpt. Corey Carlisle with the Kansas City Police Department says the juvenile was walking in the construction zone next to the middle lane of southbound I-29. Just past the bridge that crosses over NW 72nd Street, the juvenile was struck by an unknown tractor-trailer that was traveling southbound on I-29.

Police say the semi-truck failed to stop and left the scene, continuing southbound on I-29.
