Karen Seckel was hired as the new principal at North Platte Elementary School at Camden Point. “I was pleased that we have a qualified candidate within the school district. She is a quality individual,” said Dr. Francis Moran, R-1 superintendent.


Jim Van Amburg was sworn in Friday as Platte County Circuit Court (Sixth District) associate circuit judge by John Yeaman, former presiding judge. Under the non-partisan court system, a panel of two lawyers and two non-lawyers and a judge selected the candidates and the appointment was made by the governor. Van Amburg, of Weston, was both praised and kidded by members of the legal profession who spoke.

The Platte County R-3 Board of Education heard from Shane Moore, representing a group of high school students in regard to Alan Wade’s contract not being renewed. Wade is an art instructor at the high school. Helen Wade Palmer, Alan’s mother, was also there in his support.


Matt Sosa and Nikki Atchison have earned the top academic honors fo the 1993 graduating class at Platte County R-3 High School in Platte City. Matt, named valedictorian, will go to Iowa State University where he will major in physics. Nikki, salutatorian, will go to Missouri University to major in physical therapy and psychology.
