Police say a woman took her own life inside her vehicle that was parked in a city-owned downtown Parkville parking lot last Wednesday, March 8.

The woman died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside her minivan that was parked in the south parking lot adjacent to the Farmers Market, says Kevin Chrisman, police chief for Parkville.

The woman was discovered when a teenager noticed broken glass in the driver’s side window and approached the vehicle. Police say he saw the woman’s body and notified police at about 12:30 Wednesday afternoon.

Chrisman said police believe the incident had occurred several hours prior to the teenager’s discovery.

The woman’s vehicle had California plates and she had a California driver’s license. Chrisman said the woman, in her mid-30s, had ties to the Parkville area, and had been staying with a nearby relative.
