This week a sign went up on the building that will soon serve as the home of a new business in downtown Platte City. Barley & Vine–described as an upscale brewery, wine bar, and specialty wine shop–is shooting for a late spring opening at 246 Main St., next to The Landmark office. Laura Lowry, owner, says Barley & Vine will be making beer in-house and will carry both local and imported wines. The building, purchased last year by Laura and her husband Dr. David Lowry, was previously home to Wellsbrooke Antiques and is undergoing some renovations. “We are so excited to have updated plumbing, new heating and ductwork, fresh paint, and beautifully renovated brick walls,” according to Barley & Vine’s Instagram account. “Up next is all new electrical, construction of our gorgeous staircase and framing of our bathrooms.”
