Parking is now officially prohibited on Running Horse Road south of Platte City.
Most motorists may have assumed that was already the case, but there was no ordinance on the books prohibiting it until last week when final approval was given by the Platte County Commission.
The Platte City Special Road District had requested the county ban parking on Running Horse Road from Northwest 120th Street (Hwy. D) north to the city limits of Platte City.
For the past several months, a large tow truck has been periodically parking within a portion of a turning lane on northbound Running Horse into the Fox Creek subdivision, creating a potentially hazardous line of sight for motorists. That may have been what sparked the movement for the no parking official designation on Running Horse.
Frank Offutt, administrator for the Platte City Special Road District, told The Landmark that the new law became effective with the signing of the order last week. “It is enforceable when the sign specialist erects the ‘no parking’ signs,” Offutt said.
