Work on the Platte County High School rebuild project is in the punch list phase, school officials say, and a grand opening celebration has been set.
The grand opening celebration is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 8 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Platte County High School, located at 1501 Branch Street (Hwy. 92) in Platte City.
A ribbon cutting will be held at 5:30 p.m. that evening, with an open house to follow. The school will be open to the community for tours. Refreshments will be provided.
“Over the last month there has been great progress at the Platte County High School Phase One Project, both inside the building and across the site,” school officials said in a recent newsletter.
In the classroom wing, punch list work has begun. Graphics, bleachers, casework, and other finish items will soon be completed, while mechanical, electrical, and plumbing trades advance toward final inspections.
Site work is wrapping up with remaining landscaping and hardscapes, school officials say.
Furniture was delivered and installed in early November.
School officials say practices will begin in the new fieldhouse and wrestling room in December, with events scheduled to begin in the new facility starting in mid-December.
“The project is on track to finish at the beginning of December,” school officials say.
NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL
TO OPEN FOR 2023-24
Meanwhile, Platte County R-3 officials explain that the under-construction new Platte Purchase Middle School at 9400 N. Platte Purchase off of Hwy. 152 is on track for a 2023-24 school year opening.
Construction progress on the new middle school has advanced to the gym, locker room, and commons area, as the construction team works through some design details in the classroom area. Masonry block is wrapping up in the gym, and crews will start installing air barrier and brick in this area.
The concrete slab on grade has been poured in the commons area, and installation of the roofing is ramping up for the flex performance space.
Right-of-way work off of Platte Purchase Drive and the football and track areas has begun.
