Leonard A. Leo and Steven G. Calabrese are co-chairs of the Federalist Society For Law and Public Policy Studies, founded in 1982. Mr. Leo has been very open about his desire to see “the courts unrecognizable.” He plans to weaponize the judiciary to turn back the clock on our civil rights. The society gave Trump a list of people who were against abortion rights. He then used this list to select his three nominees to the SCOTUS. He also appointed 54 judges to the Appeals Court. These judges are tilting laws further to the right, starting to erode our fundamental democratic protection. It is really scary when you realize the youngest of these appointments is only 33 years old. Most of his appointments are young — a very significant fact since their appointments are for life.
Voting rights are under siege by his judges. In Arkansas, Judge Lee Rudofsky (a member of the Federalist Society) ruled that individuals and civil rights groups could NOT bring lawsuits under the Voting Rights Act. We could lose our fundamental voting protection for decades!
After reading what the Federalist Society was about, I must say that I was confused. The editor of this explanation below, (no name given) said the Federalist Society takes no position on particular legal and public policy matters. “Any expressions or opinions are those of the author.” So,if they take no position on particular legal or public policy matters, why did they supply Trump with a list of people who were against abortion?
The Constitution I am familiar with doesn’t mention women’s personal rights or how we may vote (or who can vote). They keep saying it all should be according to the law. But who wants to make the courts (judges) unrecognizable?
If the president is of a certain mindset, and he has the power to place in positions of power, people who are of the same mindset, how is that making all of us equal? Maybe we don’t think like him.
In the upcoming midterm election, vote to keep your rights as YOU want. If we lose the Senate and Mitch McConnell is elected Senate Majority Leader, he is in lock step with the Federalist Society (I don’t know if he’s a member) and Donald Trump, why give power to one person, or party, to dominate your life? Use your voting rights while you still have them.
I hear people griping about President Biden and some of his plans and ideas. I don’t agree with some of his plans, like others, but that’s our right.
The things he’s trying to accomplish are to help our future. These are things people SHOULD work together on. But, they take longer to accomplish. A judgment handed down by someone who follows the Federalist Society happens immediately and could haunt us forever.
