Featuring longest animated tunnel in Midwest

KC Parks has announced Winter Magic is back in Swope Park and is better, bigger and brighter than ever. Opening Night at Winter Magic, Kansas City’s Premier Christmas Drive Through Lights Experience on Oakwood Drive in Swope Park, was Tuesday, Nov 2 at 6:30 p.m.

Winter Magic is a partnership with Jolt Lighting and The City of Kansas City, Missouri Parks and Recreation Department. This partnership allows everyone to enjoy a COVID-safe holiday experience in the parks and the longest animated light tunnel in the Midwest.

The cost is $20-$25 per carload and a percentage of proceeds will benefit KC Parks improvement projects.

Winter Magic is a drive-thru Christmas lights event in Kansas City. You will be blanketed in lights as you drive through this beautiful tree-filled natural area. Visitors purchase tickets (one per car-load) in advance at kcparks.org/event/winter-magic/. On your day of arrival, enter at 8400 Blue River Rd., you’ll cruise to Oakwood Drive in Swope Park (which has been transformed into a modern holiday light experience).

The drive is more than one-mile long and completely adorned with game-changing holiday light displays. This year there is an option to download the Jack Frost’s Winter Blast App, an augmented reality game for children that they can play during and after the light experience.

Santa Claus will be at Winter Magic waving to all the children and collecting letters in his mailbox on Saturdays in December.

Food vendors, 2Hot2Handle BBQ and Cowtown Mini Donuts will be serving seven days a week. In addition to a now 300 feet long computerized light tunnel, KC Parks has added tons of new displays (including the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies laser display), hundreds of thousands of lights, five overhead canopies, a crazy cool new entrance.

And the display has brought back fan favorite areas, KC Proud, Zoo Animals, beautiful Lighted Spheres, the Nativity, and as always, you’ll party away as you cruise through Pixel Town.
