Man struck trying to cross Interstate 29

North of  Tiffany Springs

A 22-year-old Minnesota man suffered serious injuries while trying to cross Interstate 29 on foot early Saturday morning, Nov. 6.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Nolan A. Melichar of Maple Grove, Minn. was on foot, attempting to cross I-29 north of Tiffany Springs Parkway at 3:06 a.m. when he was struck by a northbound 1995 Pontiac being driven by Dustin A. Curtin, 23, of Ferrelview.

According to the highway patrol, Curtin’s vehicle attempted to avoid the pedestrian, but struck him and then traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a concrete median barrier before coming to rest. Curtin was not injured. His vehicle was totaled.

Melichar suffered injuries described in the crash report as serious, and was taken to North Kansas City Hospital by the Kansas City Fire Department.
