More than a dozen park grants to public entities were awarded by the Platte County Commission this week.
The grant awards are made using money from the county’s parks and recreation sales tax.
Fiscal year 2021 grants totaled more than $182,000. Ron Schieber, presiding commissioner, said the county had budgeted $250,000 to be awarded, but the parks and recreation department said grant applications were down for this year, likely due in large part to COVID-19. Schieber indicated money not allocated from the $250,000 for this year could be rolled into next year’s awards.
Grant award winners and the designated purpose for the awarded funds are as follows:
*City of Camden Point: sign for the city park, $6,315.
*City of Parkville, Parkville playground makeovers, $26,000.
*City of Riverside, Line Creek Trail Connector Phase 1, $30,000.
*Friends of the Parkville Nature Sanctuary, wayside exhibit panels, $4,630.
*North Platte R-1 School District: scoreboards for high school gymnasium, $13,627.50.
*Platte County Youth Football League, football and soccer combination goal posts, $14,400.
*Platte County Youth Football League, football and soccer bleachers with concrete pad, $20,324.
*Southern Platte County Athletic Association, softball complex upgrade, $15,038.
*The Farmers House, TFH Heritage Orchard and Cutting Garden, $15,263.13.
*City of Edgerton, perennial garden wildflower retreat, picnic area improvement, $5,183.
*City of Platte City, picnic tables, trash receptacles, benches, $8,664.37.
*Platte Land Trust, beehive box habitats installation, $750.
*Platte County Historical Society, restoration repairs to Ben Ferrel Museum, $14,990.72.
*Weston Historical Museum, virtual upgrades and Missouri Bicentennial, $7,500.
Also on Monday, the county commission officially awarded a fiscal year 2020 grant that had been given preliminary approval last year but due to an oversight was never officially passed by the commission. That grant is to The Farmer’s House in the amount of $5,700 for Heritage Orchard and Cutting Garden.
