As you’ve been reading The Landmark lately, you’re aware of the struggles of the Platte County Health Department in exercising their mandate to keep Platte County healthy and health-educated.
In the midst of a pandemic, it’s been a challenge for the health department to guide us with science and not politics. This is because the county commissioners want to make the calls regarding our personal safety in a pandemic. Bad idea.
Would you let a politician fix your car’s transmission or brakes? Probably not. Or let a county commissioner select a chemo regimen to beat your granny’s cancer? No, again. So, why would we let local government tell us what safety measures are critical in a health crisis like a pandemic? Politics doesn’t belong in auto mechanics, or public health.
Let the experts show us the way with science, medical research and facts. We hire public health experts to take care of us. The health department’s health orders may be inconvenient, but if you’re reading this you haven’t died from the deadly virus yet.
David Park is a candidate for trustee on the health department’s board. He intends to support the department in assuring science and fact are protecting our community. He supports efficient use of expert staff and funding. He understands systems; does his homework; encourages citizen input; and shows up! This position will be on the April ballot, the same one on which you’ll be voting on a school district bonds question. Please vote for David Park to join the Platte County Health Department board.
